Southwestern Jumpsuit

Nathan and I took a quick trip to Washington, DC last week to visit some friends! What a beautiful time of year to visit....the weather was perfect and it wasn't too crowded. I made a jumpsuit for the trip out of some southwestern knit fabric and it is so travel-friendly! It doesn't wrinkle, and it is soooo comfortable! I felt like I was wearing pajamas but still stylish and chic. I love this jumpsuit so much I think I'm going to make 10 more and live in them!

Fall Decor

I went to Hobby Lobby last week in search of a wheat grass wreath for our mantle...none to be found, so I ended up making one myself. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be, but it was a little time consuming(I think it took me about 4 hrs to make it). The only materials I needed were a wreath form, several bunches of wheat grass, and some wire. I found the how-to on Martha Stewart's website.

 I also bought some burlap for the mantle and made a table runner from it as well. Table decorations consist of potpourri in a vintage colander, a thrifted candlestick, and fox salt and pepper shakers(from Walmart of all places!) Now I feel ready for fall! Although we still need a pumpkin.

County Fair

This weekend Nathan and I went to see my grandmother again. She's moving into a smaller house so we helped her move a few things and brought back a few pieces of furniture to use in our home. The Allen County Fair happened to open the day we were there(what luck!). I just love the fair! Something about it is so nostalgic and timeless, and the energy and commotion is practically intoxicating! We filled up on yummy junk food and watched a few shows including a high dive act in which one diver dove from 85 ft into a 9 1/2 ft pool of water and another lit himself on fire before jumping in! We finished the evening with a ride on the Ferris wheel-nothing beats a bird's eye view of the fairgrounds twinkling in the night.

Anchors and Bows

My friend Summer and I just did a super fun jewelry/clothing swap! I made her a romper and she made me some super cute necklaces. Summer sells her jewelry on Etsy...take a look at her pieces! They are all fabulous.

Summer made two necklaces for me: an Alice in Wonderland-eske piece and the most adorable little bow necklace! The bow necklace has a fresh-water pearl from the Philippines on it.

Playing Sherlock

Recently I acquired a pair of vintage glasses. My gut told me that they were from the 1940s but I wasn't sure so I did a little investigating. The case gave me some information- Bisanar's Optometrists Geo. E and E. Alan Bisanar Hickory, NC. 

I did a Google search and found a match, so I emailed them with my inquiry. I received a reply from Robert Bisanar, the current optometrist. He informed me that his grandfather, George Bisanar, founded the company in 1909 and his son Alan joined in 1937. A third partner, Catherine, joined in the early 1950s. Since her name was not on the case but the other two were, I was able to confirm that the glasses were made between 1937-1950(my instincts were right!).  It's so much fun uncovering little bits of history! These glasses are for sale in my Etsy store along with lots of other vintage goodies!
