Bettie Page Bangs

I grew out my bangs at the beginning of the summer so I could play with rolled bangs and roller sets and I'm so glad I did! It's been super fun but I have been thinking about cutting bangs again lately and last weekend I started watching the Bettie Page documentary Bettie Page Reveals All and that sealed the deal. I love her look so much!

Cutting my bangs this way was fairly easy...the only problem was that I gave myself a perm a few weeks ago hoping that it would help my hair hold curl better(which it has!). Apparently a perm is not well suited to bangs though. This is what I ended up with after 15 minutes of curling and straightening.

Naturally I panicked. I looked like Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber.  Nathan and I made a quick trip to the store for a relaxer treatment and 10 minutes later... tada! Whew.  Lesson learned there! Have a great week everyone!

Marilyn

I wore this dress to a lovely summer wedding today...I haven't worn it in ages(I think the last time I wore this outfit was for our engagement pictures about three years ago!!) It's one of the first dresses I ever made, when I started sewing about 5 years ago, and today I noticed a few technical issues in the construction....sometimes you don't notice how much you've improved on a skill until you compare early projects with later ones.

The style of this dress reminds me of the iconic dress Marilyn Monroe wore in The Seven Year Itch. The belt is vintage, from one of my grandmothers, and the shoes are probably my very favorite pair that I own, by Poetic Licence.

Candy Striper

I finished this outfit this week...another crop top and high waisted skirt of course! I added a tie front jacket this time(made from a thrifted 90's swimwear cover-up pattern). I love how sculptural the crop top turned out! That's the best thing about sewing...the illustration on the pattern envelope only shows so much, so the finished product is always a surprise! This might be my last summer sewing project....waaahhh. Hopefully I'll have time to make some skirts and jackets this fall because I have some really awesome 50's patterns I haven't used yet!

I've been experimenting with foam roller sets lately...I really love the result but I haven't figured out how to make it stay curly for more than about 15 minutes yet! You can tell from the photos...I took some of them before lunch and then some more after lunch(because the lighting was better and I'm OCD...) As usual our puppy Lilly had to photo bomb a few of my pics...hehe.

Summer Obsession

This summer I'm totally obsessed with high waisted skirts and crop tops! They are so easy to mix and match and are super comfy and flattering. This is an outfit I made recently- I bought the fabric online from Mood Fabric NYC and it is easily the most gorgeous gingham I've ever seen! It was on sale for $7 a yard which was a total steal. I made this look from a mix of old and modern- the skirt is a modern pattern and the top is a  50s style.

Totally unrelated but also exciting is that today is the three year anniversary of Nathan and I getting engaged! Time flies....well, now I'm off to work on another skirt/top creation that hopefully I can share soon!
